Jamie Foxx, who hasn’t been in public since facing a health issue on a movie set in April, appeared in public for the first time on Monday night. He surprised everyone by showing up at the Critics Choice Association’s event celebrating Black, Latino, and AAPI contributions to cinema and television.
He became emotional right from the start of his speech, expressing that just six months ago, he couldn’t actually walk. Grateful for the support, he thanked everyone and acknowledged the challenges he faced. He shared that going through such a tough experience changes your perspective, emphasizing that he values every minute now. Reflecting on his difficult journey, he mentioned seeing the tunnel but not the light, making it a tough ordeal he wouldn’t wish on anyone. Here’s a glimpse of the initial moments of Jamie Foxx’s speech.

Foxx wasn’t announced ahead of time as the award recipient, and the award was given at the beginning of the event. He didn’t walk the red carpet before the event; instead, he stayed in a hotel room until he went onstage.
Prior to this event, Foxx had only shared about his illness on Instagram in July, mentioning that he went through something he never thought he would. He expressed hesitancy in providing updates, not wanting people to see him in a vulnerable state with tubes and uncertainty about his recovery.
During the event, he didn’t specifically discuss the details of his illness.
Among the honorees at the awards gala tonight are America Ferrera, Camila Morrone, Charles Melton, Colman Domingo, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Edward James Olmos, Eva Longoria, Greta Lee, Jeffrey Wright, Jessica Williams, Keivonn Woodard, Kemp Powers, Ken Jeong, Lee Sung Jin, Oscar Montoya, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Teyana Taylor, and Xolo Maridueña. The list also includes the cast of The Color Purple, featuring Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Fantasia Barrino, Corey Hawkins, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, and Phylicia Pearl Mpasi. Charles D. King is set to receive the producer award for Netflix’s They Cloned Tyrone, another 2023 film that starred Jamie Foxx.
