Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth has expressed his disappointment regarding the criticism of Marvel films by esteemed directors Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola. In an interview with The Times of London, Hemsworth, known for his role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, found their comments unduly harsh and disheartening.

Scorsese and Coppola have both previously criticized Marvel movies, with Scorsese likening them to theme parks rather than cinema, and Coppola calling them despicable. Hemsworth, who has been a central figure in the MCU, defended the genre and its massive audience base.

Chris Hemsworth says he gets annoyed by actors who star in a Marvel movie & then bash the MCU afterwards.

“It’s, like, ‘They’re films that are successful, put me in one! Oh, mine didn’t work? I’ll bash them.’ Look, I grew up on a soap opera. And it used to bother me when actors… pic.twitter.com/cHwCbPGwjV

    Defending Superhero Films

Hemsworth emphasized that superhero films played a crucial role in keeping cinemas alive during a challenging period marked by the rise of smartphones and social media. He argued that these films deserve more appreciation for their contribution to the movie industry and ability to draw large audiences.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Hemsworth also criticized actors who have publicly disparaged their involvement in Marvel projects after the fact. While he didn’t name anyone specifically, his comments align with past remarks made by Christian Bale and Idris Elba about their experiences with Marvel productions.

Hemsworth acknowledged the challenges of being typecast in superhero roles but highlighted the importance of bringing something new to each portrayal. He expressed his excitement for his upcoming role in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which he sees as a refreshing departure from his work as Thor.
