The third season of the Max comedy series “Sort Of,” created by Bilal Baig and Fab Filippo, will be the final season. Baig and Filippo made this choice themselves and said that they always planned for the third season to be the last. They wanted to tell a story about a period of change in Sabi’s life and how the people around them change too. They believe that in this upcoming season, that story will come to a satisfying conclusion.

They also mentioned that they know the show is ending when transgender communities are still facing discrimination and their rights are under attack. They hope that even after the last season is released, the series can still make people feel positive about transgender lives and encourage important discussions.

The last season of “Sort Of” will start on November 17th, 2023, on the free CBC Gem streaming service in Canada, and in early 2024 on Max.

“Sort Of” is a well-loved comedy series that tells the story of Sabi Mehboob, a gender-fluid millennial navigating various aspects of life, from being a bartender at an LGBTQ bookstore/bar to being part of a large Pakistani family and more. The show explores themes of gender, love, sexuality, family, and career transitions. It’s a coming-of-age story that challenges traditional labels and identities.

The series was made in collaboration between CBC and Sienna Films, with support from the Canada Media Fund. Jennifer Kawaja from Sienna Films was an executive producer, and Sphere Media distributed the show worldwide. Abacus Media Rights handled sales outside of the United States and Latin America.

The creators, Bilal Baig and Fab Filippo, have decided to end the series with this third and final season. They express gratitude to the fans for embracing the show and celebrating their work.

We know how much you love the series, and it means a lot to us too. Making this show has been an incredible experience over the past three years, working with the amazing cast and crew who helped bring our vision to life. Ending the show was a tough decision because of the love and support we received from all of you.

Our goal was to tell a story about Sabi’s journey of change and how it affects the people around them. We believe that this upcoming season will bring that story to a satisfying conclusion.

Unlike some shows with queer and trans characters that get canceled early, we want to clarify that this decision to end the series was planned from the start. We appreciate the support from Sphere Media, CBC, and Max in bringing this story to life.

We’re aware that the series is concluding at a time when transgender communities are still facing challenges and discrimination. Our hope is that even after the final season, “Sort Of” can continue to inspire and generate important discussions. It will always be there, despite the difficulties faced by trans communities.

The last season will premiere in Canada on November 17th, 2023, on CBC Gem, and in early 2024 on Max, with availability worldwide soon after. We hope you enjoy watching this season as much as we enjoyed creating it.

Thank you for sharing the laughter and tears with us. Take care, and goodbye for now!”
