Russell Brand, the comedian, and actor, has reportedly been interviewed by Scotland Yard detectives regarding allegations of sexual offenses. The interview, conducted under caution, took place at a south London police station last week.
While the Metropolitan Police did not explicitly name Brand, they acknowledged that a man in his 40s attended a police station and was interviewed under caution in connection with three non-recent sexual offenses.
Brand has vehemently denied the allegations, characterizing them as “very serious criminal allegations” and “extremely egregious and aggressive attacks,” which he unequivocally refutes.
The allegations against Brand surfaced as part of a joint investigation by Channel 4’s Dispatches and the Sunday Times, revealing claims by four women who alleged sexual assault by Brand between 2006 and 2013.
This period corresponds to his tenure as a BBC and Channel 4 presenter and a Hollywood actor. Brand has consistently maintained his innocence, asserting that his relationships were always consensual.
Recently, the BBC acknowledged that, following a review, five complaints had been lodged regarding Brand’s behavior while hosting BBC radio shows between 2006 and 2008.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that they have received numerous allegations of sexual offenses in London, and additional allegations outside the capital will also be investigated.
Channel 4, where Brand previously worked as a presenter, is conducting an internal investigation, and Banijay UK has commissioned its inquiry. Endemol, the production company behind shows featuring Brand in the mid-2000s, was acquired by Banijay in 2020.
