Online discussions are buzzing among Glastonbury 2023 ticket holders about an intriguing undisclosed performance slot on the Pyramid Stage. The complete lineup and schedule for the festival, set to occur at Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset from June 21-25, were unveiled today (May 30). Exciting additions to the roster include renowned acts such as Queens Of The Stone Age, The Hives, and Ben Howard.

The focal point of discussion among fans regarding the comprehensive Glastonbury schedule is a mysterious performance by an unfamiliar act called The Churnups, slated for the festival’s opening day of music on June 23. They are scheduled to grace the Pyramid Stage for a duration of one hour and fifteen minutes, from 6:15 pm to 7:30 pm BST, preceding Royal Blood (8:15 pm to 9:15 pm BST) and headliners Arctic Monkeys (10:15 pm to 11:45 pm BST).

Initially, numerous Twitter users and enthusiasts speculated that The Churnups could be a pseudonym for Pulp, who recently embarked on their reunion tour for 2023. Considering Jarvis Cocker and his bandmates’ availability during the Glastonbury weekend, with their complete list of performances detailed here, this theory gained traction online and beyond.

Several sources, including the fan account Glastobation, highlighted the intriguing observation that “when something is churned, it becomes Pulp.”

Following the emergence of the widespread rumor, Pulp drummer Nick Banks has utilized social media to unequivocally dismiss any connection to the enigmatic slot. In a tweet, he stated, “Though it’s incredibly tempting to playfully tease all of you once more, I am completely unaware of any band named ‘Churnups.’ Okay? That’s all for now. (For the time being).”

    Here’s some clarifications

The Wednesday of which I speak is Sheffield Wednesday FC. League 1 play-off winners.

Though it’s very tempting to tease you lot again. I know nothing of the ‘Churnups’ band. Ok?

Interestingly, there are additional connections between The Churnups and the band Foo Fighters that have piqued curiosity. Notably, the phrase “Over And Out” happens to be the title of a song by Foo Fighters released in 2005, and some fans have associated the band with The Churnups. Online discussions have unearthed a 2021 article from the Seattle Times, which mentions that Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was once part of a band named ‘Churn’.

It is worth noting that the Foo Fighters, known for surprising audiences with secret performances under the pseudonym The Holy Shits, have an opening in their schedule that potentially allows for a return to Glastonbury. They previously headlined the festival in 2017 after canceling their appearance two years earlier.

Furthermore, 2023 marks the 25th anniversary of Foo Fighters’ inaugural performance at Glastonbury, which interestingly took place on the same day and during the same time slot that The Churnups are scheduled to perform.

An observant Twitter user has recently spotted what appears to be a hawk featured in Glastonbury’s new official artwork. This detail holds significance as Foo Fighters’ late drummer, Taylor Hawkins, had a hawk tattoo on his arm, serving as a tribute to his surname. Fans and surviving band members have also used the hawk symbol as a way to honor the musician.

In a noteworthy event last year, Dave Grohl, frontman of Foo Fighters, made a special guest appearance during Paul McCartney’s headline performance on the Pyramid Stage, alongside Bruce Springsteen.

Meanwhile, Foo Fighters are preparing to release their 11th album, titled ‘But Here We Are,’ which is their first album since the passing of Taylor Hawkins in March 2022. The highly anticipated record is scheduled to be released this Friday (June 2) and has already been introduced by several singles, including ‘Rescued,’ ‘Under You,’ ‘Show Me How,’ and ‘The Teacher.’

In addition to The Churnups’ scheduled performance, the Glastonbury 2023 lineup features several ‘TBA’ slots, with the most notable ones occurring on the Woodsies stage. The first ‘TBA’ slot is on Friday, June 23 at 7:30 pm BST, followed by another on Saturday, June 24 at 6:00 pm BST.

Furthermore, there is an unoccupied time slot on Saturday at The Park Stage, spanning from 7:45 pm BST to 8:45 pm BST. Last summer, Jack White surprised the audience with a show filled with his hits at the same venue.

Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses, and Elton John are the headline acts for this year’s Glastonbury. In a recent interview, Elton John expressed that this historic performance would be “the most wonderful way to sign off in England” before he concludes his touring career. However, the pop icon admitted to feeling “a little intimidated” by the upcoming concert.

    Glastonbury 2023 lineup

Glastonbury 2023 boasts an impressive lineup of renowned artists set to grace the stage.

The festival’s headliners were announced in March, featuring an array of stars such as Arctic Monkeys, Lizzo, Guns N’ Roses, Sir Elton John, Carly Rae Jepsen, Blondie, Lana Del Rey, Lil Nas X, Lewis Capaldi, and Eurovision 2022 winners, Måneskin, among many others.

The Arctic Monkeys will headline the Friday night slot, while Guns N’ Roses, making their Glastonbury debut, will captivate the Pyramid stage on Saturday night, preceded by Lizzo, who previously performed on the West Holts stage in 2019. Elton John’s performance on the Pyramid Stage on Sunday will hold special significance, as it marks the final UK show of the superstar’s farewell tour.

Additionally, the festival has added even more prominent artists to the lineup, including Stefflon Don, Maisie Peters, Rick Astley, Queens of the Stone Age, the Chemical Brothers, Caroline Polachek, and Digga D. For a comprehensive list of performers, you can visit the Glastonbury website.
