The Flash has encountered significant trouble as it falls short of financial expectations and appears to be heading towards box office failure. The controversial star Ezra Miller has already been identified as the potential cause for this disappointment.

In this superhero film, Ezra reprises their role as Barry Allen in the DC film, while the much-anticipated returns of Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as Batman in the comic book franchise generate significant excitement.

In the weeks leading up to its release, the movie generated an immense amount of hype. Some individuals went as far as proclaiming it the greatest superhero film ever made, while box office projections indicated it would earn at least $70 million (£54.6 million) over the weekend.

Unfortunately, the film has fallen short of these expectations at the box office, initially grossing only $24.5 million (£19 million). It might even underperform in comparison to the recent DC film, Black Adam, which was considered a failure despite earning $62.2 million (£48.5 million) during its opening weekend.

In contrast, The Flash is now projected to earn less than $60 million (£46.8 million), and Ezra’s recent problematic behavior may be deterring moviegoers from seeing the film.

The troubled actor has been at the center of significant controversy in recent years, facing legal issues such as arrests for disorderly conduct and various harassment allegations.

TMZ has singled out Ezra’s troubles as a potential factor, stating: “Some people may attribute [the film’s underperformance] to Ezra themselves … who has been embroiled in controversies for approximately two years now. It could also be due to the unconventional press strategy chosen by the studio, as there were hardly any interviews leading up to the release.”

The Hollywood Reporter has presented a similar viewpoint, stating: “Opinions among box office analysts are split regarding the potential impact of Ezra Miller’s off-screen troubles on the film’s performance.

“In 2022, Miller faced multiple arrests and found themselves at the center of various controversies, leading the actor to issue an apology statement in August of the previous year…

“While Miller did attend the movie’s premiere, they have been notably absent from participating in promotional activities for The Flash.”

The issues surrounding Ezra included charges related to harassment, burglary, and allegations of assault and abuse.

Last August, the actor shared the following statement: “After recently experiencing a period of intense crisis, I now recognize that I am dealing with complex mental health issues and have commenced ongoing treatment. I would like to apologize to everyone I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to undertaking the necessary work to reach a healthy, safe, and productive phase in my life.”
