Netflix has confirmed some exciting news: “Alice in Borderland,” the popular Japanese sci-fi thriller drama, is coming back for a third season. Fans got a surprise when Netflix quietly released a teaser for Season 3, sparking online buzz about the show’s return. The official announcement came from Minyoung Kim, Netflix’s vice president of content in Asia Pacific, during a keynote speech at the APOS entertainment and media industry conference in Bali, Indonesia.
After the second season premiered in December 2022, “Alice in Borderland” became the most-watched title ever on Netflix Japan, surpassing even anime shows. It quickly reached the Top 10 list in more than 90 countries, grabbing the number one spot in 17 of them. Overall, it racked up an impressive 200 million viewing hours around the world.
In Season 3 of “Alice in Borderland,” Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya will once again play the roles of Arisu and Usagi. Netflix promises fans that they can expect to see these characters evolve in the ever-dangerous world of Borderland. Director Shinsuke Sato will also be at the helm, ensuring that the series maintains its trademark intensity and style.
Based on Haro Aso’s manga series, “Alice in Borderland” tells the story of Arisu, who is transported to a parallel universe where he must play games to stay alive. These games are divided into four categories, each represented by a suit from a deck of playing cards.
The second season introduced new cast members, such as Tomohisa Yamashita as “King of Clubs” Kyuma, Yuri Tsunematsu as Heiya, Hayato Isomura as Banda, Kai Inowaki as Matsushita, Katsuya Maiguma as Yaba, and Honami Sato as Kotoko. The previous season left fans on a cliffhanger involving the Joker card, sparking much speculation about what’s to come in the third season.
