In the captivating debut trailer of Hulu’s psychological thriller The Other Black Girl, Sinclair Daniel finds herself increasingly distrustful of her workplace due to a sequence of ominous occurrences. The series is scheduled for streaming release on September 13th.
The show, an original creation by Onyx Collective, draws its inspiration from Zakiya Dalila Harris’ 2021 best-selling novel. It revolves around Nella Rogers (portrayed by Sinclair Daniel), an editorial assistant stationed at a predominantly white publishing house in New York City. Nella, weary of being manipulated and marginalized as the sole Black woman in her company, experiences a surge of anticipation when Hazel-May McCall (Ashleigh Murray) is brought on board, occupying the office cubicle behind her own. However, as Hazel quickly becomes the darling of Wagner Books, Nella’s world unravels, leading her to uncover a malevolent undercurrent that leaves her feeling abandoned and perplexed.
At a certain moment in the trailer, Nella’s character, portrayed by Sinclair, utters, “I feel like I’m losing my grip on reality.” This statement comes as she starts to witness spectral figures gazing back at her from computer screens and along office corridors, creating the impression of being pursued by an enigmatic presence.
Nella finds unsettling messages left on her desk, one of which reads: “LEAVE WAGNER. NOW.” The trailer, marked by elements akin to a horror picture, leaves the audience to contemplate whether Nella’s suspicions of Hazel and the unsettling forces within her workplace are grounded, or if she is possibly succumbing to her own illusions.
The impressive ensemble cast of The Other Black Girl comprises Brittany Adebumola, Hunter Parrish, Bellamy Young, Eric McCormack, and Garcelle Beauvais. Executing the role of executive producers are Rashida Jones, Adam Fishbach, Zakiya Dalila Harris, Jordan Reddout, Gus Hickey, Tara Duncan, Marty Bowen, and Wyck Godfrey.
Taking on the responsibilities of co-showrunners for the 10-episode adaptation are Reddout and Hickey. The series is slated to be released in its entirety on Hulu.
