Zack Snyder, the director behind ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ considered Leonardo DiCaprio for the role of Lex Luthor before settling on Jesse Eisenberg.
In a recent chat with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast, Snyder revealed that he had discussions with DiCaprio about the film.
Although DiCaprio showed interest and had some great ideas, he ultimately decided against it. Snyder also mentioned talking to Adam Driver about the role.
Interestingly, Josh Brolin disclosed in 2022 on the same podcast that he almost played Batman in Snyder’s films but lost out to Ben Affleck.
“I think, in the end, he was like, ‘eh, I don’t know.’ But he was really smart about the material and really smart about the character,” said Snyder, who added that DiCaprio “had a lot of great ideas, actually, just in the meeting … I think he was the one that mentioned to me this idea about Superman fighting the Justice League at some point.”

While Brolin found the idea intriguing, he respected Snyder’s decision in casting Affleck. Brolin joked that maybe he’ll tackle the role when he’s 80.
