The plot of The Claremont Murders revolves around a string of kidnappings and homicides that occurred in the prosperous Perth neighborhood of Claremont during the late 1990s.
The first victim was Sarah Spiers, an 18-year-old who disappeared on January 27, 1996, after enjoying a night out at Club Bayview in Claremont. Spiers was last seen leaving the club and calling a taxi from a public phone booth nearby, but she vanished before the cab arrived.
Six months later, Jane Rimmer, a 23-year-old childcare worker, vanished after having drinks at Claremont’s Continental Hotel. Her corpse was discovered two months later in bushland approximately 40 kilometers south of Claremont.
Next, on March 15, 1997, Ciara Glennon, a 27-year-old attorney, went missing after a night out at the Continental and never arrived home. Three weeks later, her body was found in bushland approximately 50 kilometers north of Claremont.
Despite the police’s attempts at the time, the case remained unresolved until 2016, when progress in DNA testing technology enabled the authorities to make an arrest.
