Taylor Swift is poised to claim her chart crown once again. Her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department (via EMI), is off to a flying start in the U.K., on track to become her 12th No. 1. Early sales and streaming data from the Official Charts Company indicate that Tortured Poets has already amassed 197,000 chart units, making it the fastest-selling album of 2024 so far.
With the full week’s results yet to come in, Tortured Poets is expected to surpass Swift’s previous opening week record in the U.K., set by 2022’s Midnights with 205,000 first-week chart units. If projections hold, Swift will secure her 12th No. 1 album in the U.K., putting her on par with Madonna as the leading solo female artist on the charts. Swift is also the first and only artist this century to achieve 10 U.K. No. 1 albums.
Additionally, Swift dominates the singles chart race, locking up the top three spots with Fortnight featuring Post Malone, the title track, and “So Long, London.” With this momentum, Swift is likely to achieve the chart double, with Fortnight poised to become her fourth U.K. No. 1 single, following previous hits like Look What You Made Me Do (2017), Cardigan (2020), and Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) (2023).
Furthermore, Swift’s 11th studio album has shattered Spotify streaming records, accumulating over 300 million streams in a single day.
