Selma Blair is fondly reminiscing about her friendship with the late Matthew Perry.
The actress and advocate graced the red carpet at the 2023 Glamour Women of the Year Awards, held at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City on Tuesday. During her conversation with ET, she discussed her heartfelt tribute to Perry, which she posted on Oct. 28, shortly after the news of his passing.
“He was truly a dear friend. We were actively friends for 30 years,” Blair reflected on her enduring connection with the late actor. “We dated years ago, and he possessed an extraordinary talent for comedy in his writing, as well as in his affection and his commitment to his friends.”

“He is deeply missed, and I’m heartened that everyone has such affection for him,” Blair shared. “I know he held a special place in all our hearts, and he cherished that. He loved being acknowledged.”
In her emotional tribute, which Blair shared on Instagram, she posted a photo of herself and Perry happily posing for a selfie.
“My oldest and dearest friend. Matthew Perry was adored by all of us, and I especially held a special place in my heart for him. Every day,” Blair wrote in the touching caption. “I loved him unconditionally, and he loved me. I am shattered. My heart is broken. Rest in peace, Matty. Sweet dreams.”
On Oct. 28, Perry was discovered lifeless in a hot tub at his residence in Los Angeles, California. He was 54 years old and is survived by his parents, John Bennett Perry and Suzanne Morrison.
Subsequently, it has been revealed that the actor was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles, a location not far from Warner Bros. Studios where he famously filmed Friends. The funeral took place on a Friday afternoon and was attended by his family and friends, including his former cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer.
Meanwhile, Selma Blair graced the 2023 Glamour Women of the Year Awards gala, where she received one of the night’s honors.
“I’m here for the first time, and it’s truly an incredible experience to be recognized. This is wonderful,” she expressed to ET. “Especially in a time when our minds are often preoccupied with so many concerns in the world, it’s uplifting to come out and celebrate individuals who are eager to listen to each other’s voices.”
