At the 2023 Emmy Awards, Pedro Pascal playfully got back at Keiran Culkin by joking that his recent shoulder injury resulted from Culkin beating him up. The audience erupted in laughter, and the broadcast cut to Culkin, who appeared stone-faced serious.
Pascal, wearing a giant sling due to a recent fall, had attended several awards shows in the preceding weeks. He reassured the press at the Golden Globes that his injury would be fully healed, and the sling would be off by the time filming for “The Last of Us” Season 2 begins in February. Pascal attended the 2023 Emmys as a nominee in the best lead actor in a drama series category for “The Last of Us.”
The mock feud between Culkin and Pascal began at the Golden Globes when Culkin won the award for Best Actor in a TV Drama for his role in the final season of HBO’s “Succession.” In his acceptance speech, Culkin shared a humorous anecdote, mentioning a Golden Globe nomination from 20 years ago and expressing the belief that he wouldn’t return to the awards room. However, thanks to “Succession,” he found himself there again, concluding his speech with a playful taunt to Pedro Pascal: “Suck it, Pedro!” This remark left the audience in laughter.
During the Golden Globes broadcast, the camera humorously captured Pascal’s puzzled reaction after Culkin’s taunt. Pascal, also a nominee for lead actor at the Golden Globes, faced competition from Brian Cox (“Succession”), Dominic West (“The Crown”), Gary Oldman (“Slow Horses”), and Jeremy Strong (“Succession”).
“The Last of Us” Season 1 received 24 Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Drama Series. Pascal and co-star Bella Ramsey are set to return for the second season of the video game adaptation, which will introduce new cast members Isabela Merced, Kaitlyn Dever, and Young Mazino. Mazino is also an Emmy nominee this year in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category for his role in Netflix’s “Beef.”
