The prequel series to “Game of Thrones,” named “A King of the Seven Kingdoms,” based on George R.R. Martin’s “Dunk and Egg” books, is scheduled to commence production in spring 2024, provided the SAG-AFTRA strike resolves.
This series, taking place a century before the events in “Game of Thrones,” will focus on Ser Duncan the Tall and his companion, Egg. The prequel was officially ordered to series in April, during the announcement of Warner Bros. Discovery’s new streaming service, Max.
HBO’s Chief Content Officer, Casey Bloys, stated during an HBO and Max content slate event that they are continuously developing scripts and ideas for “Game of Thrones,” although nothing else in that universe is close to being greenlit. On a separate note, the second season of “House of the Dragon” is currently in post-production and is set to premiere in summer 2024, featuring a trailer exclusive to reporters.
George R.R. Martin and Ira Martin will serve as writers and executive producers for “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” with “House of the Dragon” showrunner Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis also joining as executive producers.
Amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, Bloys also mentioned that “The Last of Us” Season 2 is preparing for a spring 2024 production, pending a resolution to the strike.
