With a total of 50 nominations, Better Call Saul has established itself as a prominent contender at the Primetime Emmy Awards. Despite its recognition, the Breaking Bad spinoff series has yet to secure a victory. In the previous year, the show received 46 nominations, including some for the first part of its sixth and final season. This year, the second part of Season 6, featuring the highly praised guest appearances by Carol Burnett and the jaw-dropping series finale, became eligible for consideration, resulting in additional nominations.
Bob Odenkirk’s portrayal of Jimmy McGill in Better Call Saul has earned him a well-deserved nomination, but he faces tough competition. Three actors from Succession—Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong—are also nominated, along with Jeff Bridges for The Old Man and Pedro Pascal for The Last of Us.
Rhea Seehorn, who plays the beloved character Kim Wexler, has secured her second acting nomination for the role. She was previously nominated last year. The White Lotus boasts four actresses in contention, including Jennifer Coolidge, Meghann Fahy, Sabrina Impacciatore, and Aubrey Plaza. Elizabeth Debicki received a nomination for her performance in The Crown, while J. Smith-Cameron is nominated for Succession.
In the Best Drama Series category, Better Call Saul is competing against other highly acclaimed shows like Andor, The Crown, House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, Succession, The White Lotus, and Yellowjackets. It’s challenging to predict a win for Better Call Saul, given the strong competition.
There are several other nominations for the series. Skip Macdonald, the editor of the series finale episode titled “Saul Gone,” is nominated for Outstanding Picture Editing for a Drama Series. The episode has also received a nomination for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a one-hour comedy or drama, with mixers Larry Benjamin, Kevin Valentine, and Phillip W. Palmer being recognized. Gordon Smith has been nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for the episode “Point and Shoot,” while Peter Gould has also received a nomination in the same category for “Saul Gone.” Additionally, the web series Better Call Saul Filmmaker Training has been nominated for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama, or Variety Series.
On Twitter, Bob Odenkirk expressed his reaction to the news by sharing, “Despite this battered appearance, I’m thrilled and grateful! Thank you to all the fans who enjoyed Better Call Saul and for this nomination. Every day we poured our hearts into making this show. It all begins with exceptional writing, and I’m incredibly thankful that Peter Gould and Gordon Smith have been recognized. RHEA’s nomination has truly made my day and my year. Better Call Saul Has Another Shot to Win the Gold
Despite falling short in previous years, Better Call Saul has a final opportunity to clinch an Emmy win. With additional nominations pushing the tally to over 50, fans eagerly anticipate seeing the series receive well-deserved recognition at the Emmys. The final episodes, in particular, garnered high praise, particularly for the exceptional performances by Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn. Perhaps this year will be the moment when Better Call Saul finally walks away from the Emmys with a trophy, or even multiple ones, to celebrate its outstanding contributions.
