Amazon’s The Boys is a different breed of a superhero show. A satirical take on how power and capitalism could pervert the concept of superpowered individuals. With a heavyweight cast in Karl Urban, Anthony Starr, and Jensen Ackles, The Boys will now be joined by the baddest dude of them all – Jeffrey Dean Morgan!
The gaudy humor and graphic violence aside, The Boys has proven to be a ratings monster for the streamer. Not wishing to be outdone, the showrunners know that they need to up their quota of testosterone-addled leads with every successive season.
This isn’t DC or Marvel that’s for sure. And casting the dude who played one of the most despicable villains on TV (hello Negan!) is pretty much on brand for The Boys.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan – Who will he play?
Now for the million-dollar question – who is Jeffrey Dean Morgan going to play?
Is it the Homelander’s (Anthony Starr) father? Or maybe Soldier Boy’s (Jensen Ackles)?
The season 3 finale revealed some shocking zingers so we really hope Dean isn’t playing someone’s father.
Eric Kripke and company have roped in Dean as a recurring character for season 4, which just started filming recently. Some fans even unearthed an old tweet that shows how much he wanted Dean to be in his show:
Fun fact: Jeffrey Dean Morgan also plays the father to Jensen Ackles’s character in Supernatural!
And to announce his casting, Dean tweeted this:
Will he play someone from the comics?
Fans of Garth Ennis and Darrick Robertson’s original comics know that the TV adaptation has deviated a lot from the source material. While we do know that Sister Sage and Firecracker are two characters who will make their TV debuts in S4, mum’s the word when it comes to Dean.
Perhaps he will play someone the government tasks with taking down Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Homelander (Anthony Starr), and Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles). Because hey, you need the biggest badass out there to take out three alpha males. A charismatic sociopath if you will.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan fits that mold pretty well don’t you think? Who do you reckon he will play? An all-original character created for the TV show? Or someone from the comics?
