The Twelve, the highly acclaimed Australian series featuring Sam Neill, has received approval to commence production on its second season. BINGE and Screenwest have announced today that the critically acclaimed show will be filmed in Western Australia, a departure from the previous season’s shooting locations in New South Wales. The courtroom drama, known for its accolades, will start production later this year in Western Australia, as confirmed by Alison Hurbert-Burns, BINGE’s executive director. The Foxtel Group has commissioned the series, and it is considered one of Australia’s most prestigious and acclaimed drama series.
“We are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to collaborate with local creatives and talented individuals as we embark on the production of this captivating series, which will not only bring the story to life but also highlight Perth and the stunning countryside of Western Australia.”
The Twelve is a gripping crime drama that centers around a jury tasked with deliberating a highly controversial murder trial. However, these 12 ordinary Australians serving on the jury also find themselves grappling with significant personal challenges in their daily lives.
Following its debut, Season one of the series received critical acclaim and achieved great success at local awards ceremonies. It secured three out of ten nominations at the 2022 AACTA Awards, including the coveted Best Miniseries title, making it the most nominated drama series at this year’s TV Week Logie Awards.
The announcement of the second season comes in the wake of the introduction of the WA Production Attraction Incentive, which was unveiled last year. This initiative aims to attract high-profile productions to the region.
David Templeman, the Minister for Culture and the Arts, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The decision to bring a prestigious, top-tier series like The Twelve to Western Australia is an extraordinary outcome resulting from the launch of the WA Production Attraction Incentive last year. This production will be the largest ever undertaken in Western Australia, and we are thrilled to collaborate with Binge, Warner Bros International Television Production Australia, and Easy Tiger as they embark on the creation of this second season. We eagerly anticipate welcoming more projects of this caliber to Western Australia. With our exceptional local talent, breathtaking locations, and enticing incentives, Western Australia is open for business.”
