TV fans are upset with HBO/Max/Warner Bros. because they have been taking TV shows off their streaming service to save money.
One recent example is the removal of “Over the Garden Wall” on Aug. 31. This animated show has a dedicated fan base who enjoys its spooky fairy tale plot and music, often rewatching it during Halloween.
Removing the show right before Fall shows that Max doesn’t understand its audience, especially when it comes to animation, which doesn’t seem to be a priority for Warner Bro’s leadership.
This is a perfect illustration of the shortcomings of algorithmic programming. A human would know that OVER THE GARDEN WALL is a beloved yearly October watch; a program only sees it not being streamed the rest of the year. https://t.co/jKrIG4fexE

As the news about a certain decision spread on social media platforms like Twitter, X, and TikTok, animation fans were not happy with it and criticized its timing. One person even compared it to a shocking announcement by HBO, saying it’s like publicly executing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on December 1st.
Some fans advised others to start collecting physical media like DVDs because streaming services, by removing shows like “Over the Garden Wall,” are showing they don’t care about offering a complete library. They would rather take down popular titles to avoid paying creators royalties.
The good news is that “Over the Garden Wall” can still be found on Hulu, and it’s also available on DVDs or through piracy. So, it’s not as bad as situations where less-known shows and movies disappear completely overnight. Nevertheless, this decision by Max (presumably a streaming service) is still considered a clueless move.
