Looking for a fresh autumn show? Paramount+ has given us a sneak peek at an exciting upcoming series called “The Doll Factory,” and we’re eagerly anticipating it, especially because it features former “Outlander” and “Derry Girls” cast members!
This highly-anticipated show recently wrapped up filming in Ireland and stars Saoirse-Monica Jackson from “Derry Girls” and Nell Hudson from “Outlander.” They are joined by a talented ensemble including Mirren Mack from “The Nest” and Esme Creed-Miles from “Hanna.”
Adapted from a bestselling novel, the story unfolds in 1851, centering on Iris, a doll painter, and her twin sister Rose. Iris aspires to be an artist and secretly practices nude painting at night. Silas, a taxidermist with a unique shop, dreams of fame through a remarkable discovery, while Louis, a painter from the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, seeks inspiration.
In a city buzzing with excitement for the Great Exhibition, these three worlds collide, offering Iris an opportunity to escape and embark on a new life. However, achieving this means leaving her sister behind, sacrificing her reputation, and stepping into the unknown. As Iris’s horizons expand, she challenges patriarchal norms, explores her sexuality, and begins to live her dreams. Alongside her newfound freedom, a tale of dark obsession unfolds. The series has yet to announce a release date, so stay tuned for updates!
Since “Derry Girls” ended after three seasons, the cast members have kept busy. Nicola Coughlan took on the lead role in “Bridgerton” season three, while Dylan Llewellyn appeared in “Big Boys” and “Beyond Paradise,” and Louisa Harland is set to star in Sally Wainwright’s upcoming show, “The Ballad of Renegade Nell.”
Additionally, “Derry Girls” creator Lisa McGee has a new series in the works, titled “How to Get to Heaven from Belfast.” This eight-part comedy series follows Saoirse, Robyn, and Dara, lifelong friends now in their late 30s, as they navigate their unique lives. When they receive an email about the death of a former close classmate, Greta, they sense unfinished business. Attending Greta’s wake reveals a dark and twisted mystery that terrifies and thrills in equal measure.
