George Anthony is putting his narrative to the test as he and his wife, Casey Anthony’s parents, make an appearance on a new true crime reality show on A&E. This show, titled “Casey Anthony’s Parents: The Lie Detector Test,” is set to premiere on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on A&E and Lifetime. In this series, both parents will undergo lie detector tests on camera while recounting the tragic 2008 death of their granddaughter, Caylee.
In a preview clip, George, now 72, responds to questions during a polygraph test, marking the first time he has done so on camera. During the test, he denies any knowledge of Caylee’s whereabouts during the six months authorities were searching for the missing 2-year-old. Caylee’s body was eventually discovered in a wooded area near the family’s home in Orlando, Fla.
When asked if he concealed Caylee’s whereabouts, George hesitates briefly before answering, “No.” The polygraph administrator notices his hesitation and asks for an explanation. George responds, “Maybe it’s because … it was so close to our house, that she was found,” expressing regret and stating that he did not know where Caylee was when he went out searching for her.
Casey Anthony, now 37, faced charges of murdering Caylee. However, she was famously acquitted on July 5, 2011, though convicted on four counts of providing false information to the police. She served prison time for these charges and was released later that same month with credit for time served.
In a previous on-camera interview for the limited series “Casey Anthony: Where The Truth Lies,” Anthony accused her father of sexually assaulting her and claimed that he killed Caylee to cover up the sexual assault. George, who has never been charged, denies these allegations in the series’ promo.
A&E, in a press release, explained that Casey Anthony’s accusations prompted George and Cindy’s decision to undergo lie detector tests. The new series will reveal their real-time responses to the polygraph questions, along with each spouse’s reaction to the other’s answers and the lie detector results.
