    House of the Dragon season 2 has entered the early stages of production, as confirmed by HBO in an April 2023 press release.

    Showrunner Ryan Condal expressed excitement about returning to the set with familiar faces and new talents, stating that viewers can expect their favourite characters to engage in conspiracies, battles, and dragon-riding.

    The Game of Thrones prequel series, which delves into the history of House Targaryen, debuted to critical acclaim in August 2022, setting a record as the biggest premiere for an HBO series with 9.99 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max.

    As more information becomes available, here’s what we currently know about the upcoming season.

    Who is in the cast of House of the Dragon season 2?

    As revealed in HBO’s official press release, the season 2 cast of House of the Dragon will feature an impressive lineup, including Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans.

    In addition, several familiar faces from the first season will be returning, including Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham.

    When did House of the Dragon season 2 start filming?

    HBO has officially confirmed that production for the second season of House of the Dragon has begun at Leavesden Studios in the United Kingdom, as of April 2023.

    Who is directing House of the Dragon season 2?

    HBO has announced in a press release that as part of the Warner Bros. Discovery Access Directors Shadows program, two emerging directors, B Welby and Ebele Tate, will have the opportunity to each direct an episode in the upcoming season of House of the Dragon. This program allows directors to shadow up to two episodes of a Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) show and direct one episode.

    In addition, the show’s co-creators George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal will serve as executive producers, along with Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis. Condal will also continue in his role as the showrunner.

    How many episodes will House of the Dragon season 2 have?

    According to Deadline, the upcoming season of House of the Dragon will be slightly shorter than the first season, consisting of eight episodes.

    When will House of the Dragon season 2 be released?

    While HBO has not yet confirmed the release date for season 2, Deadline has reported that the upcoming season of House of the Dragon is expected to premiere in the summer of 2024.

    Will there be a House of the Dragon season 3?

    HBO has not yet given an official green light for a third season of House of the Dragon, Deadline has reported that the show’s creative team has already “mapped out” a plan for a third season, with the overall vision of the show potentially spanning up to four seasons.
