Variety has reported that HBO Max will drop nearly 36 movies from its subscription this week. A spokeswoman for HBO Max attributed the decision to the platform’s impending merger with Discovery+, also owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.
Deleting the titles from streaming would also help Warner Bros. Discovery save money on residuals by removing less-watched series. The date and time have not been confirmed for the removal of titles.
As we work toward bringing our content catalogs together under one platform, we will be making changes to the content offering available on both HBO Max and discovery+,” HBO Max’s statement reads. “That will include the removal of some content from both platforms.”
