George R.R. Martin, the author of the Game of Thrones series, acknowledges that he’s running behind schedule with his upcoming book, “Winds of Winter.” Despite the 12-year delay since the last book, he wants fans to know they don’t need to keep bothering him about it.
Martin recently attended the book launch of his friend Cassandra Clare’s new book, Sword Catcher. During this event, he faced questions about the progress of “Winds of Winter,” which has generated much speculation.
“I’ve been working… I’m 12 years late with ‘Winds of Winter,’ … I’m just going to put it right out there, you guys don’t have to pester me about it”

In response, he openly admitted, “I’ve been working… I’m 12 years late with ‘Winds of Winter’… I’m just going to put it right out there: you guys don’t have to pester me about it.” He understands that fans are eagerly awaiting the new book but assures them that he’s committed to releasing it when the time is right.
While Martin has other projects and books in the works, including a sequel to “Fire and Blood” and a Game of Thrones sequel series, he confirmed steady progress on “Winds of Winter.” He’s actively writing, revising, and editing, even though not as quickly as he or the fans would like. In his own words, “It keeps me out of trouble.”
