Happy Friday the 13th, horror movie fans!
It all started in 1980, riding on the success of Halloween, and became a cult classic.
Over the years, the series produced a mix of sequels and reboots, taking the villain, Jason Voorhees, on some wild adventures. He was cryogenically frozen, sent to Hell, and even faced off against another horror icon, Freddy Krueger.
Now, a new Friday the 13th movie is on its way, but it’s not part of the official franchise. It’s a crowdfunded film made by and for fans called The Awakening. This film will follow Brock Williams from the Evil Dead series as he delves into the legend of Jason Voorhees, and it will also feature Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
So, how many Friday the 13th films are there in the official franchise? There are 12, released between 1980 and 2009. Despite titles like The Final Chapter and The Final Friday, the series kept evolving (or some might say, getting crazier).
