James Cameron’s long-awaited sequel to his highest-grossing film of all time, “Avatar”, premiered in London on Tuesday. Avatar: The Way of Water transported audiences back to the enchanting world of Pandora, where we found the human colonists exploiting the native blue Na’vi people for the moon’s natural resources during the first film.
Avatar: The Way of Water Plot Details
“The Way of Water” is set more than 10 years after the first film. In it, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana return as Jake Sully and Neytiri, who now have five children.
When the humans (or “Sky People”, as they’re called by the Na’vi) come back to find Sully, he must protect his family by fleeing with them to another part of their territory where they’ll be safe. There, they take refuge with the oceanic Metkayina clan.

Sam Worthington had this to say about his newest outing:
“This was a labour of love spread out over a decade, so it’s great to finally be able share it. This is a heart-wrenching story, it’s mighty, it’s very powerful, you hope that it connects (with audiences) but it’s not just the carbon copy of the first one, we’ve really expanded the world, we’ve expanded this family unit.”
His co-star Zoe Saldana chimed in:
“It was exciting, it was also very scary because obviously, Jim had raised the stakes for himself, that meant that everybody was going to have a brand new challenge to have to deal with.”
Sigourney Weaver also makes her return in the movie, albeit in a very different role. She plays the protagonist’s adopted daughter Kiri.
More Sequels are on the way
In 2009, “Avatar” was released to the public and quickly became the top-grossing film of all time; In fact, it amassed a total of 2.9 billion dollars in ticket sales worldwide.
There are four more planned movies set to release between now and 2028.
According to the producer Jon Landau, there is more planned after Avatar: The Way of Water. They have finished filming most of the third movie already. James Cameron wants to explore more locales, environments, and species on Pandora with the latest in movie-making technology.
