Kevin Spacey’s attorneys claim that Anthony Rapp has made up sexual misconduct claims against the Oscar winner due to professional jealousy and bitterness.
Jeniffer L. Keller, Spacey’s lawyer says that “He blames Mr. Spacey for everything that hasn’t gone well in his life.” These remarks come as the civil trial against Kevin Spacey gets underway on Thursday.
Keller adds that Rapp “peaked around the year 2000 and he grew bitter about not getting parts as an openly gay man.”
Anthony Rapp vs Kevin Spacey case
The sexual misconduct allegations are part of Rapp’s $40 million civil lawsuit against the defendant Kevin Spacy. According to Rapp, Spacey made several unwanted advances at him in 1986 when he was only 14 years old.
Rapp’s team reminded the jury that their client was a minor at the time of the alleged assault. They urged the jury not to think of Rapp as the 50-year-old man that he is now, but as a boy who went through a traumatic experience once upon a time.
In 2017, Rapp said that he attended a party at Spacey’s apartment in New York City. The assault took place at the actor’s bedroom.
However, Spacey’s reps say that Rapp’s recollection of events is improbable since it is a one-room studio with no bedroom. “The story only works if you invent a wall and a door,” she said.
Rapp’s team says they have testimony from another person who suffered sexual assault from Spacey in 1981. They have revealed this person is not related to Rapp in any way. He will be testifying later in the trial.
