Anthony Mackie may be the new Captain America but there’s one role he really wants to play. He recently revealed which ThunderCats character he wants to play and why?
Mackie was asked by Men’s Journal if he has a superhero he loves. He revealed who he is most interested in portraying next:
“But now, if I could play another superhero, it would be Panthro from ThunderCats — the blue dude. Yeah, I’m big on ThunderCats — that’s my one superhero. If they ever make that movie and I’m not him, I’m shutting that s$%^ down.”
Anthony Mackie on his next role
Mackie made his debut as Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It is only last year that he took over the mantle of Captain America after the events in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. His co-star Sebastian Stan is purported to return in Thunderbolts as part of Marvel’s Phase Six slate.
Anthony Mackie took over the mantle of Cap from Chris Evans, who retired from the role after Avengers: Endgame. Recently, Evans shared his thoughts about Mackie taking over the role:
“No one better to do it [than Mackie. He does it justice and I’m so proud of him. I can’t wait to see what [Marvel Studios does] in the future with [the Captain America franchise].”
As for Mackie, he has made no secret of the fact that he would love to see Evans back in the MCU. He said:
“Chris is my boy, we all love and enjoy Chris. I’m highly upset that they put Sebastian [Stan] in a movie with Wyatt [Russell] and left me out, so it’s a whole lot going on. So, Sebastian gets Wyatt, I should get Chris.”
Wyatt Russell previously played Captain America’s replacement in the Disney+ series. He will return as US Agent in the Thunderbolts movie.
About ThunderCats
Animation house Rankin/Bass produced the first ThunderCats animated series in 1985. The plot follows a group of people who flee their planet Thundera as it nears destruction. They land on Third Earth, which is ruled by the evil Mumm-ra and his animalistic goons.
The series proved to be very popular during the course of its 130-episode run. It enjoys a cult following to this day.
Will Anthony Mackie get to play his dream superhero? Only time will tell.
